What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Personal data is information about a person which is identifiable as being about them. It can be stored electronically or on paper, and includes images and audio recordings as well as written information. We will collect, store, use, amend, share, destroy or delete personal data only in ways which protect people’s privacy and comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other relevant legislation. The lawful basis we will use for processing your data is legitimate interests.
Data protection is about how we, as an organisation, ensure we protect the rights and privacy of individuals, and comply with the law, when collecting, storing, using, amending, sharing, destroying or deleting personal data.
We will use the data to reply to contact form messages and emails, to send newsletters to people who opt in to receive them and to advise people of any updates to our privacy policy.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you use our contact form to write to us, we will use the details you give us to reply to you, and to advise you of any change in our Privacy Policy.

Who we share your data with
Our website gimms.org.uk is hosted by Bluehost and WordPress. Bluehost’s privacy policy is here and that of WordPress is here
Public Citizen UK trading as The Gower Initiative for Modern Money Studies will not sell your data. We use password protected computers and mobile phones to access data, we also use password protected accounts on third party sites including Google Docs, Google Sheets , Dropbox, Crowdfunder and Eventbrite. We will only pass your information on to anyone else if you specifically ask us to do so or if we are legally required to do so.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

How we protect your data
We have passwords on our computers, phones, email accounts and the website administration site. Paper records will be stored in locked filing cabinets when not in use.
What data breach procedures we have in place
We will endeavour not to have data breaches. In the event of a data breach, we will endeavour to rectify the breach by getting any lost or shared data back. We will evaluate our processes and understand how to avoid it happening again. Serious data breaches which may risk someone’s personal rights or freedoms will be reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office within 72 hours, and to the individual concerned.
