Objectives

The Gower Initiative’s primary objective is to promote a better public understanding of economics and the policy space afforded by our monetary system for social and environmental justice.

We will achieve this through:

  • Social media and a website which will target a wide cross-section of the public from journalists to politicians, educators and anyone else seeking to broaden their knowledge of how a modern monetary economy operates.
  • Providing an entry-level that is accessible to those without any knowledge of economics as well as more in-depth commentary for those who wish to expand their understanding.
  • Delivering up-to-date commentary on local, national and global events with a specific focus on their economic significance.
  • Developing, over time, a nationwide network of supporters to facilitate a wider public outreach.

  1. Hi, just come across your site today, sadly through an article about Dr Steve Keen being disinvited as a speaker at your recent conference. I confess I don’t know Dr Keen, his work, or the controversy around his disinvitation. I am not a trained economist but am an auto-didact who is currently reading widely around MMT which I’ve only recently come across. I have a keen interest in economics, social policy, and addressing issues of inequality and social justice. I’ve recently read Stephanie Kelton’s book, The Deficit Myth, various works by Prof Guy Standing, Yanis Varoufakis, and Mariana Mazzucato, and am now reading Danny Dorling’s new work, Peak Injustice. I am keen to connect with others thinking and advocating for a different approach that could truly transform we do both economics and politics. I will work through the various resources posted on your website – thanks so much – but am keen to stay connected with what is happening in the UK in particular so please add me to any relevant newsletters/updates.
