SUMMARY:Phil Armstrong in conversation with Ndongo Sylla
DESCRIPTION:GIMMS is delighted to present another in its series ‘In Conversation.’ \nPhil Armstrong\, Associate Member of GIMMS and author of ‘Can Heterodox Economics Make a Difference published in November 2020 will be talking to Ndongo Sylla. \nDr. Ndongo Samba Sylla is a Senegalese development economist. His research focuses on fair trade\, labour markets in developing countries\, social movements\, democratic theory\, economic and monetary sovereignty. He is currently Research and Programme manager at the West Africa office of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Dakar. \nWhilst the objective of GIMMS has been to bring an awareness of MMT to a UK audience\, the domestic context is just one part of the picture. Given the tectonic shifts in geopolitical power that are currently taking place\, we believe that it is even more essential to bring a deeper awareness to western audiences of the challenges faced by countries in the Global South which have their roots in colonial and neo-colonial exploitation by western powers and how they might be resolved using an MMT framework. \nGiven the challenges we face in addressing the climate crisis and the vast inequalities that have arisen under the current toxic economic system which dominates\, it is in the interests of world citizens that nations come together in a spirit of friendship and cooperation to develop solutions to these pressing problems. \nWe invite you to join us for this informal event which we are sure will be both stimulating and insightful. \nRegistration will commence at 14.30 (GMT) for a prompt start at 1500 (GMT). \nTickets are available via Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/phil-armstrong-in-conversation-with-ndongo-sylla-tickets-409777444367
